Flagler Beach is best known as the last rural beach town on the east coast with a year round population of less than 5,000!
Named for Henry Morrison Flagler, a Florida entrepreneur of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the area grew very slowly before 1970, resulting in a preserved natural environment.
A narrow barrier island nestled in between the Atlantic Ocean on the east, and the Intracoastal Waterway on the west, Flagler Beach is an idyllic spot boasting six miles of serene and pristine beach. Because both building and cars are prohibited on the beach, the shores are lined with sea oats and beach sunflowers instead of fast food restaurants and high rise hotels.
Fishermen find the Flagler Beach Pier to provide excellent fishing opportunities. Some 46 varieties of fish can be caught in the 25 foot depth of water surrounding the Pier, which itself extends 844 feet into the Atlantic. The Pier is open 24 hours per day, and on site bait and tackle shops sell and rent the appropriate fishing equipment.
If golf is your game, both Flagler Beach and the neighboring city of Palm Coast offer a number of challenging courses designed by such legends as Arnold Palmer, Gary Player and Jack Nicklaus
Centrally located and convenient to Jacksonville, St. Augustine, Daytona Beach, and Orlando, Flagler Beach is still far enough off the beaten path to remain peaceful and surprisingly unspoiled.
